The Stockers in Tokyo: Golden Week Trip 2010

Our Golden Week trip this year is Tohoku (northern part of Japan). Mike's good friend is in Fukushima, so we visited them and started and ended our trip there.

今年のゴールデンウィークは、東北へのロードトリップです。お友達のいる福島を拠点に、ぐるっと北を回ってきました。

So our route is like this...

今回のルートはこんな感じです。行きは直で福島まで、帰りはハワイアンズに寄ってきたので、海岸沿いを帰ってきました。

First (besides Fukushima) we visited famous tourist place called Matsushima near Sendai. Matsushima is knows as one of the Three Great Views of Japan and it is a well-known scenic point.

最初の目的地は松島です。やはり日本三景として名をはせるだけありますね。美しい島々の景色です。

First we got on the boat and cruised around. The view was gorgesou! The little islands were so pretty and amazing. The whole view was wonderful.

まずはフェリー！とごく一般的な遊覧フェリーに乗りました。やっぱり観光フェリーだけあり、かなり混んでました。景色はさすがに日本三景、極上の景色を眺めたのですが、観光フェリーだと遠くからの眺めが多く、醍醐味が感じられないのが率直な感想です。その後、宿の方の勧めで、嵯峨渓からの遊覧小型ボートにも乗船。こちらは、観光フェリーとは全く違い、島々のかなり近くまで接近するので、醍醐味もあり、数倍美しいと思われる松島の絶景を肌で体感した感じです。嵯峨渓遊覧ボート、オススメです。

Gorgeous islands like these all over... There are some 260 tiny islands (shima) covered in pines (matsu).

Right before we got on the boat we bought a bag of snack for seagulls, and we fed them during the boat ride. This was the most fun part for kids.

フェリーやボートの乗船前、カモメの餌のかっぱえびせんを購入。（ごく普通のかっぱえびせんです。）そして、ボートの上でえびせんを差し出すと、カモメの餌付けができてしまうのです！（餌付けと言うよりはカモメが手からえびせんを食べにくる、というものですが…）これは子供たちに大ヒット！エリ、ジュリアは大喜び！

We also visited shrines and historical sites while we were in Matsushima. It was really nice.

Sakura (Cherry blossoms) in Tokyo were pretty much gone by Golden Week, but we got to see the perfect Sakura blossoms in Tohoku. We went to the view point where Sakura trees were all over in front of Matsushima view. It was gorgeous!

ちょうどゴールデンウィークが桜の身頃だった東北地方。桜前線を北上して、見事な満開の桜を満喫させていただきました。満開の桜と日本三景松島をバックに記念撮影。贅沢極まりない絶景でした。
